Children's rooms and safety for young children

When children move from the cot to the bed they can get out of bed more easily. This means that they can do whatever they want in their bedroom, so they must be completely safe.
Place safety locks on the windows so that the window opens only slightly. Make sure the gap is not large enough for your child to escape.
Place the cords of the curtain at least 1.6 m above the floor.
Use covers on sockets. Make sure electrical appliances, such as heating appliances, meet safety standards. Keep them away from the bed so that your child is not at risk of electric shock if she/he gets up at night.
Secure furniture or other heavy objects to the wall so they won't fall onto your child.
Keep choking hazards and anything poisonous out of the children's bedroom - for example, moisturising oils, medicines, cleaning liquids or small items such as batteries and coins.
Remove anything your child could climb on, such as chairs and stairs.
